Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Director Charity Menefee will step down May 9.
Gov. Jim Pillen announced her resignation Tuesday, while applauding her public service.
“Charity leaves public service with an impeccable record of dedication to the health and well-being of Nebraskans," Pillen said in a news release. “Under her leadership, the division reduced processing times from 100 days to 25 for certain licenses and improved disease-tracking capabilities throughout the state."
Menefee has served in the role since 2021. As director, she oversaw community health programs, licensure for health care professions and regulation and licensure of health facilities and services across the state. She said she will use the time once she steps down to spend more time with her family.
“Leading and serving alongside the dedicated people at the Division of Public Health has been the greatest honor of my career," Menefee said in a press release. “I deeply appreciate Governor Pillen for his trust in appointing me and his strong commitment to public health. I also thank CEO Steve Corsi for his support and leadership."
Pillen did not announce plans for interim leadership or a search process for a permanent director.
