The Nebraska State Patrol’s Crime Lab in Lincoln is getting a new addition.
On Sept. 18, ground was broken in northern Lincoln for the expansion. By the fall 2026 estimated completion date, the lab will be doubled in size.
“When our new facility was built and we moved into it in the fall of 2015, we moved into it at capacity and we've added staff and increased caseload since that time,” said NSP Crime Lab Director Jason Linder. “And so in order to continue growth necessary to meet the needs of our customers, we need more space.”
Along with more space, the NSP crime lab will be adding four additional lab positions upon completion of the expansion.
"For the State Patrol, we are the only lab," said Linder. "There are some other labs in Omaha and different parts of the state that do some work for their own agencies or for hire. But we're the only full service publicly funded lab."
As the only lab for the Nebraska State Patrol, the lab will remain open during construction.
