The Nebraska State Historical Society is being investigated by the State Ombudsman’s Office.
The Ombudsman’s Office promotes accountability in government by independently investigating issues related to state agencies and employees.
“We have had complaints about the Nebraska Historical Society, and we are investigating those complaints,” State Ombudsman Julie Rogers said.
Rogers declined to comment when asked about the scope of the investigation and whether it includes Gov. Jim Pillen’s newly-named interim director, Cindy Drake.
Pillen’s Communications Director Laura Strimple said in an email that the Ombudsman’s Office has received complaints, but did not detail their nature.
“We are aware that the Ombudsman’s Office has received complaints, and we are in contact with the Ombudsman,” she wrote.
Drake was a librarian with the Historical Society for 45 years. Pillen appointed Drake as interim director in late July.
Rogers said findings from the investigation will be made public after the investigation is completed.
