Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen has announced he's running for a third term in office.
The Republican was joined by U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer and several state senators, including Speaker John Arch during an event Friday in the State Capitol Rotunda.
Evnen first took office in 2019 and oversaw the implementation of Nebraska’s voter ID law.
He said that under his leadership, no state has had more secure or accurate elections than Nebraska.
“We have continued to assure the security and accuracy of our elections, we have expanded international trade and educational exchange, we have put public safety first on the Nebraska pardons board, and we have cut red tape for our Nebraska business filers,” he said.
Fischer introduced Evnen and praised his professionalism.
“He does not shirk work. He's a serious person, but he's also a good time, let's be honest,” she said. “And it's because he is this well-rounded, balanced person, that he connects with Nebraskans, no matter where they live.”
In 2022, Evnen won a three-person Republican primary with around 44% of the vote and ran unopposed in the general election.
Evnen is the first candidate to publicly enter the race for secretary of state this election cycle.
