Nebraska National Guard Adding Medical Space to Lincoln Facility Through $2.7 Million Upgrade

The Nebraska National Guard showed off an addition and renovation to the Penterman Armory in Lincoln earlier this week. The change adds 6,000 square feet for medical services, as well as an additional 8,500 square feet for other uses. In total, the project cost $2.7 million.

Sergeant First Class Andrew Singsaas, head of clinical operations for the Nebraska National Guard, said the new space will make annual soldier physicals more efficient.

“We have counseling services available. We have a dedicated full-time staff here in the clinic,” Singsaas said. “Traditional National Guard soldiers do their one weekend per month for whatever month they need to come into the clinic. It used to easily take over two hours to get through the process, and now we’re doing stuff, under an hour.”

Sergeant Singsaas said this gives soldiers and their commanders more time to train.

The armory’s namesake, General Donald Penterman is honored in the new addition’s confines with World War II artifacts from his time as a general. Penterman was known for helping create the 911 call system and life flights.
