Nebraska’s Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley is attending a week-long trade mission to Israel starting Thursday.

Nebraska is the only state currently selling Kosher beef to Israel. The Jewish state cut off imported American beef back in 2003. Now, Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley said shipping beef to the Middle-Eastern country has slowed again.

“We think the problem relates to an interpretation of the Israeli regulations,” Foley said. “We’re going to meet and iron that out while we’re over there. We’re still selling the beef to the Israelis, but because [of] the way the regulations are written, it kind of slows it down a bit, and we could probably sell a lot more.”

The lieutenant governor said electronics, car parts, other mechanical parts, and ethanol are goods Nebraska exports to Israel, too.

Israel startup businesses expanding to Nebraska is one way Foley hopes to utilize Israel’s resources. The trip is a part of a delegation of six Republican lieutenant governors sponsored by a GOP advocacy group, the State Government Leadership Foundation.
