Husker volleyball fans are voicing their frustration on social media over changes in the season ticket reseating process.
Husker Athletics and the Huskers Athletic Fund said the number of season tickets available for people who donate $1,000 or more, called the Blackshirt level, will be limited to the number of seats purchased by the fan last year. Previously, the informational page on reseating John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center said Blackshirt level donors could get up to four tickets, regardless of last season’s allotment.
That means people who had three tickets or fewer and donated $1,000 or more will no longer be able to increase to four season tickets for the 2026 season.
A spokesperson for NU Athletics said in an email that the adjustment was made due to demand exceeding expectations, and to ensure all donors at $100 per year or more would be guaranteed the chance to buy tickets. The time slots that were booked this spring for the $100-plus donors to purchase tickets — called Sea of Red level donors — start next week.
In January 2025, Husker Athletics announced a renovation to the home of Big Red volleyball that would increase capacity from about 8,300 people to 10,000. By early October, the school announced it would reseat season ticket holders over the summer.
In an email to Blackshirt level donors explaining the changes, the athletic department said it has seen “historic and unprecedented demand for Husker Volleyball, which exceeded even our highest volume expectations and projections.” To Sea of Red level donors, the athletic department said the change “allows us to preserve the previously communicated guarantee that all existing season ticket holders with an active Huskers Athletic Fund membership would have an opportunity to select seats.”
NU will also do a reseating for season tickets for men’s basketball and football following the upcoming 2026-27 season. With demand for tickets high at Nebraska and college athletic departments needing to pay $21 million directly to players, reseating can generate more revenue and allow NU to remain self-sufficient.
The expansion and reseating at Devaney is expected to increase volleyball revenue from $4.5 million to $8 million per year.
