Winter weather is complicating travel in much of the state, with the worst conditions in the west. With Thanksgiving just two days away, the Department of Transportation is warning people not to travel.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation is advising people in areas affected by the snowstorm not to drive.

Much of Nebraska will be under winter storm warnings through early Wednesday. Heavy snowfall combined with high winds means lower visibility. And slush is freezing on the roads.

Jeni Campana is of the Department of Transportation said people are heeding the warnings.

“We do anticipate because there is less travel happening today, there will be higher traffic volumes as a whole tomorrow and into Thursday," Campana said. "So while the storm may have passed and the roads will be clear, we anticipate heavier traffic.”

The department has plow trucks out, and is working to keep roads open.

“Right now we do not anticipate any closures. That doesn’t mean that it’s not possible," Campana said. "But we’re monitoring the situation very closely, kind of paying attention to what’s going on on the ground. We work closely with our people in the field, along with law enforcement, and if that call needs to be made we will make it.”

More snow is expected on Thursday, just in time for those returning home after the holiday.
