Weather forecasters say it took less than an hour for Omaha’s streets to go from dry to flowing like rivers over the weekend. Clean-up continues after the flash flooding Saturday night that slammed the downtown and Old Market areas. So far, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Katie Gross with the Omaha-Valley National Weather Service station said the frequency of rainfall was estimated at almost four inches per hour.

“Numerous streets had two to four feet of water over them,” she said. “There were reports of stalled vehicles and damaged vehicles and flooded parking garages, basements, and they even had a few water rescues.”

One of those rescues included two people stuck in an elevator, which flooded neck-high with water.

Other communities were hit hard too. Gross says an area northwest of David City, Nebraska reported over five inches of rain.
