Lincoln Public Schools is taking a unique approach to address staff shortage issues this week. They’re hosting a 12-hour “fast track” hiring event on Thursday looking to hire bus drivers and transportation paras for the school buses.

Ryan Robley is the director of transportation for LPS and said the recruiting event will take applicants through the process at the school’s district office.

“We’ll sit you down with a computer and get your application filled out,” Robley said. “Immediately following that, we will do an interview with transportation. We’ll get that interview done, and ship them over to the HR side, to go do an HR interview.”

Job offers will be handed out Thursday pending physical and background check results. LPS will hire up to 20 paras and 20 drivers, which includes full and part-time opportunities. Lincoln Public Schools offer in-house training for both positions as well. Hours are typically from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and/or 2:30-4:30 p.m., with the potential for working mid-day. Additionally, the school provides hiring bonuses.

The event will be held at 5905 O Street in Lincoln from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, visit lps.org.
