Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announced Thursday the city received nearly $13.5 million in federal funding for utility and housing assistance. The funding will go to help those in need of the assistance because of the pandemic. Lincoln’s Director of Urban Development, Dan Marvin, said the money is much-needed for many in the community.

“As the vaccine provides a light at the end of the tunnel for the pandemic, this new assistance is the light at the end of the tunnel for many individuals and families saddled with this debt,” he said.

Marvin said with a phone call and an online application process, those who need assistance can get it. He says their goal is to help connect all eligible households that were impacted by the pandemic with the necessary dollars to address the challenges they face with housing.
