The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department is seeing an increase in local COVID-19 risk. Officials increased the dial to the middle of the "high risk" area.

Officials believe the spike is partly due to young people not socially distancing or wearing masks. That's why Interim director of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department Pat Lopez is urging younger residents to take the virus more seriously and mask up.

"The behavior of some young people continues to be part of the problem in moving us in the wrong direction, and we need them to be a part of the solution instead," Lopez said. "Please be a hero and wear a mask."

It is now mandatory to wear a face covering in indoor public spaces in Lancaster County.

Since early July, 77% of Lancaster County's new coronavirus patients have been under the age of 40, with 50% between ages 20-29.
