The Community Corrections Center in Lincoln is in quarantine status after several inmates tested positive for COVID-19 this week. Four of the inmates lived in the same room on the men’s side of the facility and the staff has started contract tracing.
Scott Frakes is the director of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) and said inmates will have less movement around the center and there will be limited work opportunities in the community. Visitations and volunteer programs are still cancelled.
Last month, two other correctional facilities were in quarantine status to avoid the spread of the coronavirus and the NDCS started offering inmates flu vaccines in anticipation of the winter season.
