The Lincoln Airport will likely lose service by Delta Airlines until at least September 30th, a blow for the facility that’s seen its business drop by more than 90 percent. The Department of Transportation has given Delta and other carriers permission to suspend service on less popular routes during the pandemic. Delta’s only flight out of Lincoln is to Minneapolis, and recent flights have only had 4-8 passengers.
“From a what people have seen lately perspective, there really is going to be a fairly minimal change,” said the Lincoln Airport Authority’s Dave Herring. “That said, there certainly is a change to people that are Delta fliers exclusively and we’ll continue to work with Delta to make sure we get it back as soon as possible.”
Herring says only 40-60 people are flying out of Lincoln each day, down from 500-600 people a day before the pandemic. He says airport revenue is down between $250,000 and $300,000 a month compared to a normal month. United Airlines will continue flights from Lincoln to Chicago and Denver.
