Jordan Larson comes out of retirement for 2027 LOVB Nebraska season

One of the most decorated volleyball athletes of all-time is coming out of retirement. Jordan Larson said she had played her final game of professional volleyball in early April. But on Friday, LOVB Nebraska and Larson announced she’s coming back.
“This decision took time, and it came from a lot of honest reflection,” Larson said in a news release. “I’m coming back because when I got still enough to truly listen, I realized the game wasn’t done with me, and I wasn’t done with it. There is more in me, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep giving that to LOVB Nebraska.”
The leader of the 2006 Nebraska national championship team also earned four Olympic medals for Team USA. She competed at the pro level outside of the U.S. for more than a decade before joining League One Volleyball as one of its founding pro athletes in 2025.
After LOVB Nebraska dropped what was expected to be Larson’s final home match, she felt she “went down swinging.” The 39-year-old from Hooper scored 19 kills against LOVB Austin.
"I know this wasn't an easy decision for Jordan, and I'm incredibly proud of her for making it on her own terms," said Kirsten Bernthal Booth, president of business operations for LOVB Nebraska.
Bernthal Booth, former longtime coach at Creighton University, said the organization is thrilled to welcome back Larson, who competed at a high level this past season.
The 2027 season will likely start in early January.
