A Lincoln-based organization that focuses on youth mental and behavioral health is offering the community support during the pandemic.

HopeSpoke Executive Director Katie McLeese Stephenson said the organization is hoping to move forward with a proposed program to make COVID-19 hygiene bags with items like thermometers, masks, disinfectant wipes, and other essentials for those in need. She said the project is pending grant funding.

She said for families with children, it’s important to communicate with them and answer their questions, to make them feel safer.

"Be honest with them and recognize for all of us that this is an uncertain time, and that can make us feel a little anxious," Stephenson said. "Sometimes just letting your child know that helps to normalize that a little bit."

Stephenson said many of the organization’s programs, like therapy in schools and outpatient therapy, are continuing, but some are now offered through telehealth.

She said both individuals with and without known mental health issues should consider reaching out to make sure they are receiving assistance and taking care of themselves during the pandemic.
