Experts say anyone with blowup Christmas decorations or outdoor furniture may want to put those away Wednesday. High winds with gusts up to 65 to 70 miles per hour are expected to affect Nebraska. Shawn Rossi, a forecaster for the National Weather Service in Hastings, says both high wind warnings and fire weather watches are in effect.
"Having windy days is not atypical this time of year late fall into early winter.' Rossi said. "This is just a very potent system that's going to be intensifying that is going to really impact our area."
Rossi also says it is important to take caution and not burn anything because of an increased fire risk, and this is an extreme fire weather day as well.
"With those strong winds in that low-relative humidity, we strongly encourage people not to burn anything and any fires that do develop could get out of control very quickly," Rossi said.
Drivers on the interstate should also be cautious of the strong winds, as their drive may be impacted.
