Nebraska football’s probation was extended to April of next year. The probation includes Head Coach Scott Frost serving suspension for a five-day period this Fall, along with his off-the-field analysts. The NCAA announced the decision Monday, as a part of a collaborative negotiation.

One Husker assistant already sat out for two days of practice this spring. The school’s forced to pay a $10,000 fine to the NCAA, too.

Penalties were handed down due to an off-the-field analyst illegally coaching special teams during practices in 2020.

The NCAA released an official decision stating, “Specifically, the head coach failed to monitor the special teams analyst. He was present when some of the violations occurred and identified red flags; yet he did not consult with compliance…”

It was announced the program was under investigation by the NCAA during preseason practices last season. The Huskers fired a special teams analyst earlier that year, which prompted NCAA inquiry, according to the statement.

However, the report said the Cornhuskers were handed expedited and lightened penalties due to its cooperation and through investigation internally.

Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts said in a statement Monday, “we are pleased with the outcome and believe the negotiated resolution is fair and equitable.”

“I am appreciative of the diligent efforts of our University of Nebraska staff in working to bring this matter to a close. We have had outstanding collaboration with the NCAA, and I want to thank the NCAA staff for their time and professionalism throughout this process,” Alberts stated.

Nebraska will also be required to perform educational programs and file reports with the NCAA - demonstrating compliance with off-field analyst rules.
