The South Heartland District Health Department is working to catch up on vaccinations after a week of not receiving vaccine shipments because of the extreme weather. The department is continuing to focus vaccine efforts on residents 65 and older, but will also begin the process of vaccinating educators next week.

Executive director Michelle Bever said they will start allocating a small portion of vaccine doses to essential workers from each of the district’s K-12 schools in all four counties that make up the health district.

“I think educators are very excited that we are starting on them and that some of them will have access this week, and a few more every week after this.”

Since the delay in vaccine shipments last week, the department has been working to get 1500 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine into arms by this coming Tuesday.
