Doane University’s spring commencement ceremony has been postponed until Sept. 20. The ceremony had been scheduled for May 9. University spokesperson Ryan Mueksch said the new date was selected after consulting with the 450 spring graduates and faculty members.

“They really did want their own ceremony,” Mueksch said. “And so we wanted to do everything we could to make that happen.”

The commencement will be held at Cassel Open Air Theatre on the Crete campus, with a plan for both a morning and afternoon ceremony.

Mueksch said having it at the Cassel Theatre is a tradition they wanted to keep. He said the location also can hold up to 2000 people, which will allow for social distancing.

Graduates must RSVP to the ceremony in order to attend.
