Direct flights between the Lincoln airport and Houston could be coming soon. Lincoln Airport Authority spokesperson Rachel Barth says authority members approved an agreement Thursday with United Airlines for the service.

"It will be a daily flight, most likely a morning flight and then returning that evening, and we are looking at potentially starting that service September 1st," she said.

Barth says no one can book a flight yet because United still has to approve the agreement, which she hopes happens next week. The move comes after Lincoln lost service during the pandemic that used to be provided by Delta connecting the city with Minneapolis and Atlanta. Barth said the new service would be subsidized by a federal grant of around $1 million, with additional contributions from the chamber of commerce and the University of Nebraska.
