A Lincoln funeral home is encouraging the community to attend a veteran’s funeral service Monday. Irvin Joseph Brown, 89, doesn’t have any known relatives or family. He was deployed in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines. Later in life, he worked as a postman for 15 years before retiring in 1987.

Tom Roper of Roper and Sons Funeral Home in Lincoln, which is organizing the service, said Brown was known as a likable and reserved person.

“He was just kind of a simple individual that served his country for 20 years in the Air Force,” Roper said. “I know I’m grateful for his service, and I’m sure that everyone else that is in attendance or watches it livestream feels the same way.”

Roper was able to find the priest who was present for Brown’s final moments and he will assist with the service Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Roper said the ceremony and burial will be in line with most Catholic traditions. He said Brown arranged this service after his wife passed in 1985.
