Columbus police officer, man armed with rifle in hospital following gunfight

A Columbus police officer is in stable condition, and a man he shot is in critical condition, after a gunfight Thursday night.
Sergeant Brad Wangler, a 19-year-veteran with the Columbus Police Department, responded to an anonymous report stating that an individual wanted for an outstanding warrant, later identified as 24-year-old Jorje Robledo, was in Columbus.
Wangler and another officer, contacted Robledo around 7:30 p.m. According to police, Robledo fired at the officers with both a handgun and a rifle. Both he and Wangler were shot during the exchange.
The two men were taken to Columbus Community Hospital, and later transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha by helicopter.
