The City of Omaha’s Memorial Park Concert is scheduled to take place this year on Friday, June 28. The event is in line with the traditional date of the Friday before the Fourth of July.
“Announcing the Memorial Park Concert date is one of my favorite things to do each year,” Mayor Jean Stothert said in a press release. “Announcing the talent is even more fun, but you’ll have to wait a couple more weeks for that.”
The annual event, presented by Stothert and the City of Omaha, is the culmination of many different Omaha groups and city departments coming together.
“This event takes a lot of work but it’s such a gift to our community,” Omaha Parks Foundation Executive Director Tiffany Regan said in a press release. “The Parks Department is honored to have Memorial Park play host to this free, family-friendly event each summer.”
Last year’s event featured national opener Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone and headliner Melissa Etheridge. The 2024 event will feature videos of local bands and musicians throughout the day and between sets the night of the show. KPAO Omaha’s Public Access Television will once again serve as a project partner. Bands and musicians have until May 3 to learn more and express their interest in booking studio time or submitting videos.
On June 28, music will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with fireworks starting at approximately 10 p.m. The evening’s grand finale fireworks show, one of the largest in the region, is already being designed by J&M Displays of Yarmouth, Iowa. It will be set to a soundtracked played live by radio partner Classic Rock 105.9 FM.
The event is sponsored by the Omaha Parks Foundation and Douglas County and will be professionally managed by VGA with production partner TMS Omaha. For more information as the date approaches, visit the website and follow the event on Facebook by searching “Memorial Park Concert.”
