A children’s mental health service organization is presenting a training for Spanish-speaking families with young children.
The training, put on by Ad Astra Behavioral Analytic Services, is for parents and will focus on ABA, or applied behavior analysis, as a means of helping children form better communication skills, school readiness and an awareness of school safety.
Esmeralda León is a Lead Community Liaison Specialist with Ad Astra and will be hosting the training session. She is a bilingual behavior therapist, who moved to Nebraska from California when she learned the Spanish-speaking community in Nebraska needed bilingual behavioral therapists.
“These workshops are important because they're needed,” León said. “These families don't have enough resources. There's some families that you know can't get a diagnosis for whatever the reason being, or maybe they just don't know how to get started, or maybe they just need a little bit more help on you know what ABA is.”
León teaches through scenarios and will instruct those who attend how to use applied behavior analysis in their day to day lives.
The training will be held at the Omaha Children’s Museum on Jan. 15 from 6-7 p.m.
For those who speak English, there will be another training at the museum on Jan. 29 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
