Bryan Medical Center is working on in-house COVID-19 testing. Currently, once a sample is inserted into the analyzer, testing takes about 2 hours.

Christina Nickel, Laboratory Director at Bryan, said who this testing is used for could change.

“We are currently running about 5-6 samples a day based on the samples we are getting in-house. We are limiting this to our inpatients and healthcare workers today," Nickel said. "I say today because every day is a new day and we look at when we’re gonna be getting supplies and make that decision every day."

Officials added that it becomes harder to test people for COVID-19 as the infection progresses.

All drive-through testing samples are sent to a third-party lab, and the turn-around to get results is approximately two days.
