A storm system late Tuesday night will bring in rain that will turn to snow Wednesday morning, according to The National Weather Service.
Along with the precipitation, Nebraskans should expect to see winds of up to 70 mph, the NWS said Monday morning.
“We've got a pretty strong storm system that's going to be moving through the region over the next couple of days here,” said Katie Gross, a meteorologist at NWS Omaha. “That's really going to blow around that snow and kind of make visibilities go down quite a bit, which could lead to some blizzard conditions at times.”
Another smaller system is predicted to move in late Thursday, Gross said, but this kind of weather is expected this time of year.
“We tend to see these kinds of storm systems, kind of during the springtime, when Mother Nature is really trying to mix that warm air in the area with the colder air and kind of even things out,” Gross said. “So, we do tend to get some stronger, kind of big systems like this this time of year.”
She recommends people who have travel plans on Tuesday and Wednesday keep an eye on the changing conditions and adjust plans as needed.
Mikayla Hall, marketing and communication specialist at Nebraska State Patrol, said troopers will be out on the road to assist travelers through the weather.
"We ask that people bring spare tires or gasoline, anything that could be of assistance to help them if they get stranded," Hall said. "And if they do, our troopers will carry those to things with them to assist people."
