Howard County Emergency Manager Allen Wilshusen told Nebraska Public Media News Sunday evening that at least two homes near St. Libory, Nebraska, were leveled after a tornado ripped through the county on Sunday. He said at least one other home sustained significant damage. As of 8 p.m. Sunday evening, Wilshusen was still making his way through the county to survey damage. No injuries have been reported so far.
Emergency crews with the St. Libory Fire and EMS shared this message on social media Sunday night: "We appreciate everyone’s concern but powerlines are down and there is a lot of debris in the area impacted by the tornado. We ask that bystanders please put safety first and be considerate of those affected and stay away for now."
Governor Jim Pillen said his team was monitoring storm damage reports Sunday.
"We will continue to gather information and provide state resources to help with cleanup wherever possible," Pillen wrote on social media. "In particular we are aware of several homes damaged or destroyed in Howard County. Please join me in praying for those families and anyone else affected by these storms."
The tornado was a part of a line of storms that converged on central and eastern Nebraska on Sunday evening. Several tornadoes were reported by trained storm spotters, including one near Hebron. The Hebron Golf Course sustained widespread damage to its trees and some of its buildings. The golf course posted that it would be closed Monday and asked anyone who is available to help clean up debris.
