While votes are still being counted in Fremont, a leading opposition organization has conceded it appears likely that an ordinance prohibiting hiring or renting property to illegal aliens will pass. ACLU Nebraska Executive Director Laurel Marsh says her organization "has no option but to turn to the courts to stop this un-American and unconstitutional ordinance before the law goes into effect." Supporters say the ordinance reflects citizens' frustration at the inaction of government on all levels to stop illegal immigration. Similar laws have been tied up in court in other states.
