Republican Don Bacon is the representative for the 2nd Congressional District of Nebraska.
Bacon said the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn abortion rights protected by Roe v. Wade is a huge win for anti-abortion rights activists.
“I thought it was a good day,” Bacon said.
“I’ll just be upfront. I am a pro-life person. I believe we are created by God and we’re made in his image and that life is very precious,” he said. “I thought this was a significant day and a good day.”
Bacon said he believes life starts prior to 15 weeks of conception. The decision whether Nebraska’s abortion laws will change now goes to the state level. Bacon encouraged anti-abortion state senators in Nebraska to work with the other side.
Democrat Tony Vargas is the state senator for an Omaha-area district. The 2nd District congressional candidate said he supports abortion rights.
“People get to choose whether or not they want elected leaders that are going to stand up for them and their freedoms for reproductive rights,” Vargas said.
“I have fought for freedoms of reproductive rights and healthcare access for women,” he said.
Vargas said there’s a group of senators that will fight for abortion rights in Nebraska’s unicameral discussions, when it comes time to make the final call.
