The annual Nebraska Passport Program, which encourages residents and visitors alike to explore the state and visit both popular and lesser-known shops and attractions, kicks off its 2021 Season May 1st.
This year’s program features 70 unique places to visit in communities across the state and Program Coordinator Madison Johnson says many of this year’s tours will highlight anniversary celebrations.
“It's the 100th anniversary of Nebraska Game and Parks system, so we have a lot of really awesome Game and Park properties on the program this year, which is also really nice for Covid too, because there's a lot of outdoor experiences,” says Johnson, “So even if you are nervous about going into two restaurants or stores, still, you can participate in a big way.”
Madison says 2021 will also mark the 150th anniversary of Arbor day, so participants can expect a tree-themed tour as well.
“Tree Rush at Fontenelle Forest is a high ropes course, there's Arbor Lodge in Nebraska City, there is the Cedar Room in North Platte – it's just a restaurant called the Cedar Room, so I put them on the tour because I liked the idea of just including places with tree names.”
