‘The American Revolution’ Event Brings History to Life at The Durham Museum

LINCOLN, Neb. (April 23, 2026) – Nebraska Public Media will present “Revolution Rediscovered: Bringing 1776 to Life,” a special event at 6:30 p.m. CT, Thursday, May 7, at The Durham Museum in Omaha, exploring the ideas and debates that shaped a nation as part of America’s 250th celebration.

Centered on “The American Revolution,” the acclaimed documentary by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt, the event explores the people, tensions and turning points of America’s founding.

The evening features a panel discussion, film excerpts and a hands-on pop-up exhibit from the Omaha Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, showcasing items from the Patriots Chest with period-accurate materials and everyday colonial artifacts.

Panelists include:

  • Dr. Susan Brynne Long, history instructor, University of Nebraska at Omaha
  • Dr. James (Jim) Sly, vice president general, Omaha Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution
  • Dr. Kyle Chattleton, public historian, The Durham Museum
  • Jessica Wagner, director of education and public engagement, The Durham Museum (Moderator)
