New Nebraska Public Media Digital Series Explores the Stories Behind Remarkable Collections

LINCOLN, Neb. (Sept. 14, 2025) – What starts with a single object can become hundreds, each adding another chapter to a personal story. Nebraska Public Media’s new seven-episode digital-only series “Weird. Wonderful. Collected!” explores remarkable collections and the passionate people behind them. The first episode is now available on the Nebraska Public Media YouTube channel, with new episodes released Sundays.

From more than 400 vintage Jeeps to intricate miniature worlds, board games and folk art, the series reveals how the ordinary becomes extraordinary and the meaning people find in the unexpected.

“Weird. Wonderful. Collected!” takes viewers inside collections large and small, including a miniature world containing more than 20,000 pieces and a family’s collection of more than 1,500 board games.

Other episodes explore native prairie seeds collected not for display, but to be planted; folk art shaped by imagination rather than formal training; naturally formed wood knots that reveal something different depending on who is looking; and fossils that tell the story of Nebraska millions of years ago.

Through each collection, “Weird. Wonderful. Collected!” goes beyond the objects themselves to explore why people collect, what their collections mean to them and the stories that accumulate along the way.
