Nebraska Public Media’s Vosburg Named a Rising Star by Industry Magazine ‘Current’
LINCOLN, Neb. (Aug. 21, 2024) – “Current” magazine, a source for news about public media, recently recognized Ian Vosburg, director of annual giving at Nebraska Public Media, as a 2024 Rising Star in Public Media.
The initiative recognizes up-and-coming talent ages 35 and under in a variety of audience-facing and behind-the-scenes roles at public media stations and national organizations. Among 171 nominees of early- to mid-career professionals from across the country, judges selected Vosburg as one of 35 finalists. He is a native of Holdrege, Neb.
“Ian’s skills as a collaborator shine. He actively engages with industry groups and brings valuable insights back to our network. His knack for blending proven strategies with fresh ideas significantly enriches our projects, fostering a culture of innovation,” wrote Nebraska Public Media Producer Brandee Weber in her nomination application about Vosburg.
Colleagues describe Vosburg as driven, collaborative and innovative, using data to make and evaluate decisions. He notes that to maintain success in an evolving industry, stations must balance the trusted legacy of public media with the viewing habits of newer audiences.
Vosburg’s career in public media began almost by accident. “I had a job with about a 45-minute commute and started listening to Nebraska Public Media. That’s when I became a public radio nerd. About a year later, there was a job posting for an entry-level development position and I went for it,” he said.
The 2024 Rising Stars work in different areas of public media and contribute creatively in many ways. “Current” notes that the group of honorees is making a big difference in their workplace and community.
