Nebraska Public Media Names Clowney Chief Operating Officer
LINCOLN, Neb. (Nov. 14, 2023) – Nebraska Public Media has named Peter Clowney as chief operating officer for the network. Clowney is a veteran leader of creative teams, including roles at the public radio programs “Marketplace,” “This American Life,” and “Fresh Air,” and public radio stations WBEZ in Chicago and WNYC in New York.
He has also worked for the podcasting companies Stitcher and Gimlet, as well as Sirius XM. Most recently, Clowney supported content creation at the audio production company Pushkin Industries.
“We are pleased to welcome Peter to our team. He has a strong background in media management and will be a key player as we implement our strategic priorities in the future. His commitment to content and journalism is strong, as is his belief in the essential nature of public media,” said Nebraska Public Media General Manager Mark Leonard.
Clowney will provide management, leadership and vision, ensuring that Nebraska Public Media’s internal strategies and goals are implemented successfully.

Clowney will manage professionals across several departments, including those working in finance and accounting, human resources and administration, technical planning and services, and research.
He is also tasked with ensuring Nebraska Public Media remains relevant in the changing media landscape and monitoring compliance with state, university and federal policies.
