Nebraska Public Media Invites Families to ‘Be My Neighbor Day!’
LINCOLN, Neb. (Feb. 27, 2026) – Nebraska Public Media is inviting families to explore what it means to be a caring neighbor at “Be My Neighbor Day!” from 10 a.m. to Noon CT, Saturday, March 21, at the network’s studio at 1800 N. 33rd St. in Lincoln.
At this free event, families and young children can meet Daniel Tiger, watch an episode of the PBS KIDS series Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood on a gigantic TV, explore emotions, make paper bag puppets and kindness loops, visit a Lincoln City Library book pop-up and decorate Welcome Boxes for the Food Bank of Lincoln. Each family who attends will receive a bag filled with ideas to extend learning at home.
“We hope to inspire kids to be part of their community,” said Jessica Mitchell-McCollough, Nebraska Public Media Senior Director of Education. “And we want to support parents and caregivers as they help children learn about caring for others and their community.”
“Be My Neighbor Day!” will be a bilingual event featuring activities and educational resources in both English and Spanish. For children with sensory needs, a quiet play zone with a train set and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood character figures will be available.
In coordination with the Nebraska Public Media family event on March 21, Lincoln City Libraries will host Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood story times that include reading of a Daniel Tiger book in English and Spanish, and a hands-on activity.
Story times are scheduled at three Lincoln City Library locations on these dates:

10 a.m. CT
Walt Branch Library
6701 South 14th Street
Wednesday, March 18
10:30 a.m. CT
Eiseley Branch Library
1530 Superior Street
Thursday, March 19
6:30 p.m. CT
Gere Branch Library
2400 South 56th Street
Families attending “Be My Neighbor Day!” events may also choose to donate non-perishable items to a community food drive which runs March 1-22. Donations will be accepted at Walt, Eiseley and Gere library branches, as well as at Nebraska Public Media and at the Food Bank of Lincoln.
“Be My Neighbor Day!” is supported by a grant from Fred Rogers Productions.
Now in its seventh season on PBS KIDS, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, the first original show from Fred Rogers Productions since Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, brings the children’s television pioneer’s legacy to life for a whole new generation of young viewers. Every episode of the well-loved series showcases two distinct stories starring 4-year-old Daniel Tiger and his friends, who invite viewers to join them as they explore the colorful Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Irresistible musical strategies reinforce the unique theme of each show; preschoolers and parents can sing along and incorporate them into their daily lives.
All families are welcome to attend “Be My Neighbor Day!” on March 21, but activities are primarily designed for children ages three and older.
