The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Heartland Chapter inducted Nebraska Public Media special advisor Ron Hull into the organization’s Gold Circle.

Hull has been a constant presence at Nebraska Public Media since he started in 1955 as a producer-director. Hull helped shape Nebraska Public Media into the organization it is today: A statewide network which broadcasts four television channels, two radio channels and produces a myriad of local broadcast, social media and digital content. He also is professor emeritus at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“His influence and inspiration have contributed enormously to the use of public media to inspire and delight with storytelling as its essence,” Nebraska Public Media General Manager/CEO Mark Leonard wrote in his letter of recommendation.

“Ernie Chambers: Through the Years” was recognized in the interview/discussion program category. The program follows Chambers from his years growing up in Omaha to his time at Creighton University, in the military and the Nebraska Unicameral. It also talks about his efforts to secure more Black representation, his quest to abolish the death penalty, ground breaking initiatives to pay college athletes and his efforts to get Nebraska to divest from South Africa.

A Nebraska Public Media listener support video was recognized in the long form promotional spot category. Nebraska Public Media interviewed teacher/rancher Megan Helberg of Taylor, Neb. for this promotional spot.

The 36th Annual National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Heartland Chapter Awards presentation was July 16.
