Nebraska Broadcasters Association Honors Nebraska Public Media for Excellence

LINCOLN, Neb. (Aug. 19, 2024) – The Nebraska Broadcasters Association recently honored Nebraska Public Media with several awards recognizing the network for excellence in radio and television.

During the association’s annual convention, Nebraska Public Media earned gold awards in three radio categories: “Omaha Celebrates Terrence ‘Bud’ Crawford won for Best In-Depth Sports Story; “Rising Rents, Limited Supply in Omaha” won for Best In-depth/Investigative Story; and “Farmers Want More Crop Support Funding” won in the Service to Agriculture category.

The television documentary “Working Fires: Volunteer Fire Departments in Crisis” won an additional gold award in the Service to Business, Industry, Government or Education Category.

The network earned silver awards in two additional radio categories. “Four Years Without Safe Drinking Water” won for Best In-Depth or Investigative Story or Series and “Canal Plan Stirs Controversy with Colorado” won for Best Continuing Coverage of A News Story.

“Morning Edition Newscast with Dale Johnson” won bronze in the Best Newscast Category and “Wheelchair Competitor Hopes to Inspire Others” won bronze in Best In-Depth Sports Story.

In addition to the gold award for “Working Fires: Volunteer Fire Departments in Crisis,” stories from two of Nebraska Public Media’s longtime series won three other awards in the television competition.

Two stories from “What If…,” which focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship, were honored, including silver for “What If…Mind Mobile” in the Service to Children category and “What If…Fast Forward” in the Service to Business, Industry Government or Education category.

The story “Cornhusking, Harvesting” from the “Nebraska Stories” television series won bronze in the Service to Agriculture category.

The 2024 Nebraska Broadcasters Association Pinnacle Awards program was held on Aug. 14 in Lincoln. The program was established in 1958 to recognize and encourage excellence in broadcasting and service to the community by Nebraska radio and television stations.
