Decker Selected as Nebraska Public Media’s Next General Manager and CEO
LINCOLN, Neb. (Aug. 20, 2024) – Stacey Decker has been appointed Nebraska Public Media's next general manager and chief executive officer following a national search.
Katherine Ankerson, executive vice chancellor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, announced Decker’s hiring this morning. He officially assumes the position on Oct. 14, becoming just the fourth general manager in the network’s history.
Decker is an accomplished public media executive with over 25 years of experience in local, regional and national broadcasting markets. He currently serves as the senior vice president of innovation and systems strategy at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
From 2007-2013, Decker was assistant general manager for technology at Nebraska Public Media. His accomplishments included creating a more efficient media delivery platform that expanded the network’s production capabilities and provided significant cost savings.
“I am honored to rejoin the incredible team at Nebraska Public Media during this dynamic and ever-evolving time in public media,” said Decker. “I look forward to working together to achieve growth, increase reach, and support the mission of enriching lives and engaging minds on a community and national level.”
Prior to his work at CPB, Decker founded and served as president of Public Media Management, a collaboration between Boston public media station GBH and Sony, where he successfully transitioned the organization into a for-profit business. He also spent time as chief technology officer at GBH.
Decker was also a founding member of Signal Infrastructure Group, developing strategies to assist the broadcast industry in leveraging ATSC 3.0 technology, aiming to improve the revenue profile for broadcasters.
“I am excited to welcome Stacey back to Nebraska,” Ankerson said. “He has deep roots in broadcast and a passion for the digital media landscape with a strong entrepreneurial spirit that is data-driven and strategic. This, combined with his collaborative leadership style, will usher in great things for the future of Nebraska Public Media.”
Mark Leonard, Nebraska Public Media’s current general manager and CEO, has extended his retirement to Oct. 13 to ensure a smooth transition.
