‘America 250 Community Celebration’ July 18 at International Quilt Museum
LINCOLN, Neb. (June 30, 2026) – Nebraska Public Media and the International Quilt Museum will celebrate stories that connect us with a free, family-friendly open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT, Saturday, July 18 at the International Quilt Museum, 1523 N. 33rd St., in Lincoln.
The “America 250 Community Celebration” marks the culmination of a yearlong America 250 initiative inspired by “The American Revolution,” the acclaimed documentary by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt and the new “Material Nation: 250 Years of American Quilts” exhibition at the International Quilt Museum.
During the community celebration, visitors can explore the exhibition featuring more than 250 objects, including quilts, quilting tools and historical artifacts spanning generations. Themes range from patriotic works and reflections on American identity to pieces by Nebraska quilt makers.
The event will also feature an ongoing screening reel with clips from “The American Revolution,” highlighting art, music and literature from the Revolutionary era and offering a window into the voices and visions that shaped that period. Light snacks will be provided in the screening room.
Visitors can also explore artwork created at previous “American Revolution” community events, reflecting how those stories continue to inspire conversation and creativity today.
Participants can come and go throughout the day. Guests can enjoy a hands-on craft activity for all ages, explore the galleries with museum staff and take in the stories stitched into every piece.
