'Travel with Rick Steves' Takes Listeners Around the World
Stories We Tell
Rick Steves returns to radio each week with travel tips, expert conversations and stories that bring the world closer to home.
For longtime travelers, armchair explorers and anyone wondering where to go next, Travel with Rick Steves makes the world feel a little closer.
Every Saturday morning at 6 a.m. CT on Nebraska Public Media, the one-hour public radio program combines practical travel advice with engaging conversations about people, places and cultures.
Host Rick Steves is best known as one of America’s leading authorities on European travel and a best-selling guidebook author. He spends about four months a year in Europe, but his curiosity stretches well beyond the continent.
With guest experts and callers, Steves explores destinations around the world while digging into local traditions, food, music, history and everyday experiences that give each place its unique character.
You’ll hear stories and helpful tips that you might not find in a guidebook. Plus, listener questions provide you with more ideas for travel adventures and making the most of time away from home.
Steves spent the summer after high school backpacking through Europe on just two dollars a day — sleeping on the floor, sneaking into museums, and subsisting on a diet of bread and jam.
When he came home, he found people were hungry for tips on how to visit Europe on the cheap. He taught his first travel class at his college campus in the mid-1970s and was soon selling a self-published guidebook out of his car. Eventually, he started leading minibus tours and hosting a travel show on public television.
Whether the conversation takes you to a bustling European capital, a quiet village or somewhere completely unexpected, Travel with Rick Steves encourages listeners to slow down, stay curious and connect with the people who call a destination home.
Tune in and discover where the conversation takes you on Saturdays at 6 a.m. CT on Nebraska Public Media.
