A new PBS KIDS series helps preschoolers discover reading through everyday objects like signs, labels and flyers.

Meet Phoebe and Jay Yarber – the curiously charismatic 6-year-old twins at the heart of the newest PBS KIDS animated adventure.

In this literacy-rich series, young viewers discover the many types of text that fill their everyday world. From labels and signs to flyers and posters, Phoebe & Jay turns everyday reading moments into invitations for learning.

“Every year, 40 percent of children enter kindergarten with literacy skills one to three years behind their grade level, creating a difficult gap for them to overcome,” said Sara DeWitt, PBS KIDS Senior Vice President and General Manager.

Phoebe & Jay supports preschoolers as they learn to read, create and use text in meaningful ways. Set in a whimsical community inspired by Los Angeles hotels turned into apartments, the twins live with their dad and Grandma Annie.

Adventures unfold around every corner: using a flyer to help a neighbor find a lost pet, reading clothing labels to pick the right size shirt or decoding smudged addresses to deliver mail.

With curiosity as their compass, Phoebe and Jay show children how literacy opens doors, solves problems and sparks everyday magic.

Watch weekdays beginning Monday, Feb. 2, at 8:30 a.m. CT on Nebraska Public Media.
