Omaha Receives First NextGen TV Signal from Nebraska Public Media
July 2025

Nebraska Public Media has launched a NextGen TV channel in Omaha, offering enhanced visuals and internet-enabled features to viewers with compatible smart TVs.
NextGen TV is the newest free, over-the-air standard in television, offering improved picture quality, better reception and enhanced public safety alerting. It also supports internet-enabled features.
To watch NextGen TV, viewers must have a smart television or set-top box that supports the new standard, as well as access to the internet. In Oct. 2024, Nebraska Public Media became the first PBS station to launch a NextGen TV Virtual Channel – 26.1 in Omaha, the only community where it is currently available.
NextGen TV allows a viewer’s antenna to receive instructions that tell a smart TV how to stream video content over a home internet connection.
In early 2025, we added an interactive content guide to our NextGen TV virtual channel. Viewers can navigate through live streaming of TV and radio programming, on-demand video, local weather and QR codes to connect with our social media.
(NextGen TV is new technology, but your current way of watching TV remains available. There is no need to make any changes.)
