Host Andy Hermann celebrates Nebraska’s distinct identity with a monthly radio series airing during 'Weekend Edition.'

Have you ever thought about what makes Nebraska… Nebraska?

Curious Nebraska host Andy Hermann is thinking about it for his new monthly radio series. “A lot of things across this country have become homogenous, but you can pick up on regional quirks if you are listening,” he explained.

Hermann is from Ohio and lived in Chicago, so he’s certainly familiar with the Midwest, but he’s been surprised by some subtle differences. Catty-corner or kitty-corner? Interstate or expressway? Scooping snow or shoveling snow? Did you know Nebraska has a wool industry? And red beer?

“I want Nebraskans to embrace their uniqueness and know that it’s OK to be different,” said Hermann.
