Nebraska Public Media news invests in trusted local journalism and expanded coverage for communities across the state.

While many organizations are cutting back or even eliminating local news, we are investing to build what’s next, growing our newsroom to deliver more stories, more trusted journalism and stronger access to state government.

Local news does more than inform. It weaves communities together, strengthens civic life and helps people understand the issues shaping their lives – but as Nebraska’s news deserts continue to expand, more communities lose access to reliable local reporting.

That's why we’re investing in more journalism. Not less.

Breaking news stories about devastating wildfires. Live coverage of Congressman Mike Flood’s third and most contentious town hall. Thoughtful analysis of the 2026 election cycle as part of Campaign Connection, including local congressional races, campaign finance and ballot issues.

While others are pulling back, we're pushing ahead. We believe that all Nebraskans – whether they’re surrounded by gravel roads and tallgrass prairie or city lights and the skyline of a growing downtown—deserve access to reliable local news.
