Children created story puppets and personal flags inspired by Molly of Denali to celebrate community and culture.

Our education team joined other community partners to kick off the ‘Color Our World’ summer reading program at the Grand Island Public Library.

“Working with local libraries can amplify our efforts to bring valuable resources to families across Nebraska,” said Neli Morales-Garcia, Nebraska Public Media’s bilingual early childhood education specialist.

The team shared three activities, including two based on the PBS KIDS series Molly of Denali. Kids and families used stick puppets to tell stories and created flags that represented their communities, highlighting important places like parks, schools and neighborhoods.

Nebraska Public Media provided food for participants, as well as take home bags for each family. “The bags were filled with literacy-themed materials and additional resources. The idea is to bridge learning from community to home,” said Morales-Garcia.
