Nebraska Public Media partners with emergency officials to provide trusted emergency alerts and critical information during severe weather and disasters.
When every second counts in an emergency or severe weather, Nebraskans have relied on us to deliver critical public safety information for more than 70 years.
“Nebraska Public Media is a key player,” explained Erv Portis, assistant director, Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
New automated technology now allows us to send targeted emergency alerts across our FM radio stations and extend that reach through web streams on YouTube TV and the PBS live linear system.
“We’ve got a statewide network that’s supported by state and local government, delivering a signal across Nebraska that other stations relay,” said Al Krause, network operations manager.
Nebraska Public Media also serves as the Joint Information Center in the event of a radiological incident. In early 2026, the network hosted a NEMA exercise simulating such an emergency, strengthening its real-world response capabilities.
“Our NEMA simulation space is steps away from our radio studio, so we can quickly disseminate information during an emergency,” said Cathy Bradberry, radio network director.
