This event is free, but pre-registration will ensure easy check-in.

Meet Daniel Tiger, watch Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood on a gigantic TV, explore emotions, make paper bag puppets and kindness loops, visit a Lincoln City Library book pop-up and decorate Welcome Boxes for the Food Bank of Lincoln.

Each family will receive a bag filled with ideas to extend learning at home. Families may choose to donate non-perishable food items.

Nurturing A Caring Neighborhood

We are inviting children and families to explore what it means to be a caring neighbor – through everyday moments of kindness and connection.

“We hope to inspire kids to be part of their community,” said Jessica Mitchell-McCollough, Nebraska Public Media Senior Director of Education. “And we want to support parents and caregivers as they help children learn about caring for others and their community.”

From offering a hug when someone feels sad to saying something kind or helping parents put groceries away, Mitchell-McCollough says developing empathy and building social awareness are key social-emotional skills that children can practice in simple, meaningful ways.

“In moments when we need support,” she said, “it’s easier to accept help when we’ve also learned how to be a caring helper.”
