General Manager & CEO

Nebraska Public Media seeks a General Manager & CEO who will lead the organization in envisioning and enacting vibrant public media in the state of Nebraska. This individual will also serve as the Secretary of the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Commission and the General Manager of Nebraska Public Media. Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Nebraska Education Telecommunications Commission, the successful candidate will be expected to provide dynamic leadership in further developing and strengthening the public broadcasting programs and educational offerings of both the University and the Commission for the State. We are seeking candidates with authenticity, humility, and a sense of humor that sets others at ease. The ideal candidate brings the following:

• At least 10 years of experience in senior leadership roles; strong leadership in positions of increasing responsibility in public media or a related telecommunications business or industry is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline required, Master’s degree preferred.
• Sophistication and savviness in complex media environments, including multi-platform journalism and contemporary public television/radio station structure. Possess an understanding of the production and distribution aspects of public radio and television, ATSC 3.0, and emerging media trends.
• Accomplished record as a passionate public representative of an organization capable of uniting people in imaginative and collaborative partnerships that cultivate programmatic innovation.
• Politically astute and able to unite diverse constituencies; with a record of developing a visionary, holistic, and uplifting institutional identity that excites and energizes stakeholders at all levels to contribute to institutional goals.

Studio/Remote Production Supervisor

The Studio/Remote Production Supervisor oversees a skilled full-time production crew during TV studio and remote location multi-camera productions. Responsibilities include operating and setting up Grass Valley video production switchers, providing direction, and making decisions based on technical workflows required for shows. The role involves directing most OB/Remote live multi-camera productions and the more complex live and recorded multi-camera studio productions. Additionally, the position provides guidance to the control room team during technical checks and rehearsals and trains technical directors in all aspects of switchers while mentoring aspiring directors.

Under general supervision, researches, writes and produces feature stories and programs for Nebraska Public Media; produces and announces an on-air shift for Nebraska Public Media radio; performs related work as assigned. Utilizes professional judgment to determine overall content and effectiveness of radio and news programming. Researches, writes, edits, produces, and narrates a long and short-form stories to broadcast to the listening audience. Under general supervision performs skilled work operating automated master control playlists, network operation, transmission, satellite and video streaming equipment requiring precise timing to ensure accurate television and radio broadcasts, and internet streams. Transmission Site Manager

This position will be situated in South Central and Southeast Nebraska areas and will work independently to test, configure, calibrate, install, operate, update, repair, and perform systems and transmitter preventative maintenance to television and radio transmitters and associated equipment. Media Archives Student Worker

The Media Archives Student Worker position at Nebraska Public Media supports the maintenance, organization, and enhancement of the media archives. This role involves a range of tasks under the guidance of the Media Archivist, including sorting through paperwork and media, creating basic summaries or simple Finding Aids, and enhancing inventory databases.

The best candidate will be someone who has an interest in learning new skills and an appreciation of history, sports, broadcasting, specialized media formats, or another relevant subject area. Schedule and hours are flexible, but hours will be within archivist business hours (M-F, 8:30-4:30).

Potential Responsibilities:
• Review and edit auto-generated transcriptions of media contributions to the American Archive of Public Broadcasting for accuracy and clarity.
• Help box collections of tapes to be shipped for digitization.
• Spot-check digitized media assets (TV/radio) for quality control.
• Help box and organize photograph collections.
• Sort through digital files and folders, summarize content, and organize materials according to specified criteria.
• Working with boxes of TV production materials, identifying dominant material types, summarizing contents, and organizing unsorted paperwork.
• Help locate, label, and list external hard drives, providing brief descriptions of their contents for cataloging purposes.
• Assist in enhancing information within the media library by updating inventory spreadsheets and databases to reflect media formats and conditions.
• Perform other related duties as necessary to support the operation of the media archives.

Qualifications:
• Interest in media, archives, or library science preferred.
• Ability to lift 30 lb. boxes and comfort with climbing small ladders.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications like Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
• Good communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions:
The position involves a mix of office-based and physical tasks within the media archives. Some work may be completed in a dusty environment or with dusty materials.
