It’s Homecoming Week at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. That means there was another star-studded class of Husker athletes inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame today.

The Husker Hall of Fame class of 2021 includes two Olympians in swimmer Therese Alshammar and gold-meal wrestler Jordan Burroughs. The star of the 2009-2010 women’s basketball team that went undefeated in the regular season, Kelsey Griffin became a member. Larry Jacobson was Husker football’s first Outland Trophy winner, for the nation’s best lineman, and is a part of this year’s class. Late 40s Baseball and Basketball player, Bob Cerv and 80s volleyball star Cathy Noth round out the seventh-ever Husker Hall of Fame class.

Keith Mann with UNL Athletics said this year’s induction highlights tremendous athletes outside of Nebraska’s two banner sports.

“People think, maybe, first of football and volleyball when they think of great athletes at Nebraska, but if you look back in the history of Cornhusker Athletics, it’s spread across a lot of sports,” he said. “There’s two women’s basketball players going in, you know, swimming’s represented, bowling’s represented, on down the line.”

Last year’s and this year’s classes will do a combined induction today, because of last year’s pandemic cancellation.

Early 2000s Bowler Amanda Burgoyne, Heisman trophy winning quarterback Eric Crouch, football and track’s Sam Francis from the late 30s, Maurtice Ivy from women’s basketball in the 80s, volleyball legend and Olympian Jordan Larsen, and renowned volleyball coach Terry Pettit represent the 2020 Husker Athletics Hall of Fame.

The two classes will be honored inside Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
